Christmas Morning 2013
Christmas Morning was so much fun. Freeland was on call the night before and had to round that morning. So he got up super early and was home by 7:00. We slowly got things ready and then went and grabbed the kids out of bed.
(side note: River did wake up at 4:00 that morning but thankfully after going in his room and telling him it wasn't time to wake up yet he went back to sleep!)
They had all waited SO long for this morning that it made it even more exciting to tell them it was finally here:
(note: Rivers gift from Grandma Rhonda was bedding for his bed.. poor child! ha. we picked it up after christmas so after a year he finally has his own bedding)
Wylder wasnt as excited about everyone busting into his room:
This is what running down the stairs looked like when we told them it was Christmas morning:
Im not naming any names.. but look who else stole Santa's milk & cookies:
River was mostly concerned that santa didnt eat the entire cookie!
after we played with everything from Santa and enjoyed the morning together and had our cinnamon rolls we stopped to do our last advent before we opened gifts:
Then we did stockings & gifts:
Chapel went down for a nap halfway through so the boys opened some of her gifts for her. My mom got these (because I told her BOTH the boys & Chapel would love them) And the boys were fa-reaking out that they now had their own mixer and coffee machine for their kitchen! ha.
Once Chapel woke up she was pretty excited about all her new girly toys too:
It was a slow & simple morning. We do gifts slow and play with them as we open them. It took the boys opening 2 or 3 to understand how to wait for each other and stop and enjoy what they got before moving to the next one. We skyped people as we could along the way too.
Im thankful family still sends so many gifts for the kids (and us) even though we are far away. We truly wouldnt really have this kind of a christmas for them if they didnt so its a huge blessing. Im also thankful the boys are still at an age where getting a package of stickers was just as exciting to them as all their dump trucks and race cars.
Ive loved catching up with friends and hearing about their christmas or reading about everyone else's christmas and seeing things they do to cultivate time as a family during the holidays and how they foster the focus being on Jesus. Its been sweet to learn and encouraging seeing so many other people doing it! Its also been bittersweet to see the reality that the holidays looks so different for everyone. While there are years we can relish in time as a family and it can be simple and fun .. I realize it doesnt always look that way for everyone & it may not always look that way for us. It makes me grateful for what we have right now and my prayer is that I can enjoy this season and should we ever experience other seasons that I would hopefully feel just as blessed and grateful for how good God is, how worthy He is, and how beautiful Jesus being born is to our life.
(also, side note: can we discuss how its only Jan 6th and Ive already posted almost all our christmas? Normally thats not happening until February!)
