Last year we didnt make it to the pumpkin patch. (gasp! i know.. its not fall until you go, right?) This year we barely made it. But we did. and it was amazing.
I cant speak for pumpkin patches all over. But Erie & Cleveland have both topped my expectations in the pumpkin patch department.
Will we ever be able to go back to the go ol pumpkin patches in a church parking lot in Texas? I dont know! ha ;)
We went to Patterson Farm this year. Its an apple orchard and one of the pick your own places. I looked it up online and told freeland to just go without any expectations. All I could see was literally just a slide. (although now I see there are pictures of everything else on their site.. I just didnt look hard enough) We were used to Port Farms in Erie (here, here, and here) where its like kid heaven and has 800 activities. Even when we pulled up I told him okay.. just know we're going to pay for them to do a slide and thats it. It doesnt even include a pumpkin.
Then we got on a tractor.. went past their apple orchard.. and the skies opened up to the cutest little pumpkin patch and "fun fest," as they call it, appeared!
It was amazing.
I think we could have just let them ride the tractor and called it good and gone home. they loved it.
They have a bunch of wooden (and real) tractors sitting around for the kids to play on. This is literally ALL wylder wanted to do. Sit in this tractor below and drive it. Pretty much the rest of the afternoon was Wylder in tears because he wasnt in the tractor.
Although he did not appreciate sitting in the REAL tractor. He wanted the little wooden ones:
The pumpkin patch (picked over by this point as we went the day before Halloween. But imagine lots of cute pumpkins and charlie brown basically:
and then you walk back to their woods and they have all these adorable slides, forts, swings, etc. for the kids to play with. It was so charming!
"Wlyder & River.. sit and take a picture real quick":
"I want to see the tractor" ...
"fine, lets go to the tractor" ...
and we're happy again.
Little miss finally got to play and Id say she was pretty stinkin happy about it:
and lets just discuss her outfit please. I want it in my size. flannel, cardigan, jeggings, boots, and adorable bow. Hello!?
Side note... how much does River look like Freeland in the picture below? I mean Im pretty sure I have a picture of Freeland making the same exact face here. Ignore the lack of blonde hair from Freeland. He say's he doesnt see the resemblance. Its all I see when I saw this picture.
this tractor was another fort and slide too.
We opted to walk through the apple orchard going back to the car.
and of course.. pictures with the pumpkins. Note: Do not give your children apples right before you want to take a picture:
Chapel loved it! ha
also - please check out Wylder and how he looks at chapel. That boy is so sweet and affectionate and endearing I cant stand it.
There was even more that we didnt get to do because we ran out of time! It was a blast. Seriously. Besides wylder screaming and crying almost the entire time.. it was a lot of fun. I only wish we could have stayed longer! Im certain the kids could have spent the entire day exploring and never been bored.
Next year we will definitely give ourselves more time. We were there on a weekday afternoon.. and it appears thats the time to go. I believe on the weekend its super crowded. But if you go on the weekend they have face painting, horse rides, and food. So maybe its worth going. Their house is also on the property (picture beautiful white farm house with a porch .. black shutters.. the whole gig... and even kids playing basketball in the driveway) and its all just so charming and beautiful. When we left Freeland was determined this is what we need to have one day.
Also -> for those interested (grandparents) here are our pumpkin patch pictures from previous years: here & here.
