Thomas the train comes to Cleveland!
For River & Wylders birthday we decided to buy them tickets to go meet Thomas the train.
Clearly, they have no idea this was for their birthday as it was the end of May and their birthdays are in April & July. So to them Im sure it just seemed like maybe we were the most amazing parents in the world randomly taking them to meet the biggest celebrity in their life right now. ha
My mom & Mark were in town so they came along with us. (my mom took one for the team and came as she also had a viral bug at the same time!)
It was a lot of fun. A little overwhelming. But a good experience. We learned a lot about going next time!
They have lots of activities & tents. There are bouncy houses & slides, a tent where you can watch Thomas movies, a tent filled with TONS of train tables for the kids to play with or color & craft, a tent with an electric train table in it, and of course another tilled filled with Thomas stuff for kids to beg their parents to buy. (also .. all that stuff is FREE whether or not you ride Thomas so it would even be worth going and doing that without buying the tickets to actually ride the train)
River was seriously overwhelmed and so quiet just taking it all in the entire afternoon.
It was a lot!
thankful we had grandparents to keep up with the kids)
This train table was probably their favorite "activity" to do.
This was under the tent with all the tables set up for kids to play with the trains
Checking out the tractor:
and then it was our turn to not only go meet Thomas .. but to get to ride him. Here's River taking it all in:
WE SAT HERE FOREVER BEFORE THE TRAIN ACTUALLY TOOK OFF. Again, Thank goodness for grandparents in town for Wylder to switch back and forth from because a lot of other kids were melting down!
(and they repeated the same thomas music the entire time.. fun for the kids.. a little not fun for parents! ;)
Then we took a 30 minute ride on the train:
these people are VOLUNTEERS! How awesome is that!? She came by to "punch our tickets" You can tell they love their job and love playing along with the kids.
and finally lil missy fell asleep:
those two.. twins I tell ya!
after the ride you get to go meet the legend himself .. THOMAS:
you also get to meet Sir Topham Hatt.
I didnt think River or Wylder would really care about that part but of course all the sudden they did.
And, surprisingly .. it ended up being Rivers most favorite part! (yes, somehow the huge life size Thomas, or riding an actual train was dismissed after meeting this man!)
You may notice .. this is NOT Sir Topham Hatt..
the 'real' Sir Topham Hatt was actually on a break and we were all on our way out so in a moment of pure brilliance we decided to ask this incredibly kind man if he would pretend to be him for our sons.
(not to toot my own horn... but to toot my own horn.. it was my idea!;)
He was AWESOME and played it up. Called the kids by name & acted like he was seriously Sir Topham Hatt. It was pure brilliance. And at the end of the night River said this was his favorite part of the entire day. ha
It was a fun day.
Id probably wait until River is almost 5 & Wylder is almost 4 to go again.. or to at least pay for the train part. They loved it .. but they'd love it even more at that age. Maybe we'd go next year and just do all the free activities though! (its like 10 minutes from our house!)
I heard the conductor people saying the morning is always better because it isnt as crowded .. and the first weekend isnt as crowded also. They also said if you ride the train the cars at the end arent as crowded as the ones in the front. So I think we will do those things next time too so it wont be as overwhelming. But it was a blast!
