"Hannah said, Oh, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted my petition made to Him. Therefore I have given him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is given to the Lord. And they worshiped the Lord there."
2 weeks ago we were fortunate enough to be apart of the baby dedication at our church here. Since none of our kids had previously been dedicated we were able to stand before the church with all 3 of our children & commit to raising them to know the Lord.
I had to let go of any of my ideas about what this day "should" look like because I knew it wasnt going to. Of course traditionally, we would have all our family in the church with us to witness & celebrate all the Lord will do. Unfortunately that wasnt an option for us since they are all so far away. And you know the whole lunch/party celebration we do in the south wasnt going to happen either! ;)
Thankfully our hearts were in the right place (praise God) and what we were focused on was what the day really meant for us & for our kids.
It was a beautiful moment where I truly felt the Lords presence.
The 24 hours before the service were definitely interesting! Im pretty sure everything that could have happened to keep us from going to church happened. And at one point during the middle of the night we were in each of the kids rooms praying fervently over them!
It was actually incredibly affirming to us that so much could happen to keep us from going & keep us from standing before God & his body of Christ to commit to raise our family to know him. It reminded me how even though it would be easy to think it was just a silly ceremony we were doing that really didnt change how we were going to raise our kids .. it was incredibly important and darkness would tremble knowing we were committed to raise our children to know & experience God.
Its amazing to think the Lord ordained this day to happen long ago and nothing could keep it from happening.
Here are the boys during the service. This was their first time sitting with us in "big church" and during worship. Such a special moment. (and praise the Lord for all the people we sat by as they helped to wrangle the kids when they lost interest!)
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
