As Ive mentioned (a few hundred times) River turned 2 on April 2nd .. making it his "Golden Birthday". (if you turn 27 on the 27th.. its your golden birthday.. thats how it works! ;)
So I happily took that idea and ran with it so I didnt have to come up with an elaborate theme for his party. It was SUPER simple and we threw it together the week we got back from Africa. I really wanted to do gold decorations but its a lil too girly and more expensive so I just stuck to golden yellow.
The only things we bought were the banner, a few cupcake toppers, plates, cups, utensils, and food! That was awesome! Everything else I already had, borrowed, or made & printed. Thats my kinda party.
River had a blast.
waiting for the guests
Freeland made this pinata! it was awesome!
my attempt to make the cupcakes a lil more manly.. spray painted dinosaurs.
the cupcakes were AMAZING! Thank you Kimberly!
the labels matched his invitations. All were printed for FREE online.
snacks for the kids: Golden oreos, golend nilla wafers, golden teddy grahams... etc
The verse idea I found from meg duerksen's blog I believe
you cant really have a "yellow" party without a lemonade bar! right?
what it takes to get a picture of all of us. Russ is holding candy up to get River to look! ha

Then we did cupcakes & sang happy birthday. The boy was IN LOVE with all the attention:
and he actually knew how to blow the candle out. I was shocked
Wylder trying to snag some cupcake
Russ & Corinne drove up from Pittsburgh (as always so sweet!) and Miley made the trip with them. She was pretty much non stop entertainment for the kids. It was as if we ordered at petting zoo! And how fitting was it .. a Golden Retriever! Nice touch! ;)
Eventually River figured out he could climb up the piano and get the cupcakes for himself. Sugar high!
My 2 year old!
Then it was time for the pinata!
our all star pinata hitter! ;)
can you tell he LOVED it?
and then this happened:
SO FUNNY! He just got right back up and hit it again!
Jackson bein all sneaky picking out all the lollipops! cute!
The End! It was so much fun. All we wanted was to celebrate Rivers life and all our friends. It felt like the focus was on him and not the party and not all the details. So relaxed, simple, and low key. We are both so thankful for our friends who want to celebrate our kids lives with us! And Im definitely looking forward to one day when family can be close enough to be here too because I know they all wanted to be!
