And once again.. we are shocked!

We showed up for the sonogram this morning only to be told they couldn't do it. Or technically, they wouldnt do it. Problem was that they wanted to do a 4d sonogram and wanted my doctor to sign off on it. Well, that would have been nice information to know BEFORE I showed up! There wasnt anyway to get my doctor on the phone right away.
As I tried to hold back the tears I felt coming on as an emotional pregnant woman being told she couldn't have something.. I began to beg. All I could think is - all these people who read my blog are waiting to find out! How can I do this to them!?
Not really, but kind of. I did think about the blog & all of you wonderful people who are so sweet and are excited for us. But really what I thought was... I WANT TO KNOW THE SEX OF THIS BABY!!! TELL ME NOW!!!
Not to worry, I worked my magic.
Once we got it worked out and I explained that I didnt care to have a 4d sonogram and all that they had to look at were the parts & pieces and I would be on my way they happily agreed to do so.
BUT NOW
NOW
There is an envelope sitting next to me that I am desperately trying NOT to peek at. The sonographer happily agreed to just write down the sex so I could wait until I was with Freeland and we could find out together. My mother, however, was able to see the screen. So she knows if its a boy or girl. Well, River saw it too. But Im pretty sure he doesnt know what he was looking at.
So until Freeland gets home tonight I will just be sitting here waiting!
and waiting.
and waiting.
if this isnt proof that River is l.o.v.i.n.g. seeing all his family, I dont know what is:

River & Pop playing ball together at my aunt & uncles house. adorable. Thanks Denise for the picture!
I think its safe to say River is a champ at traveling. Almost every night it seems he is sleeping in a different place, taking naps on the go, meeting new people, being passed around, etc. etc. etc. While it can be exhausting its very much worth it. (however, we are taking a break because now he is sick with his first cough so we'll be laying low for a few days) He is definitely recognizing family members now. And it makes my heart very happy to see him so loved on. The only hard part is that even though we are here for an extended period of time it doesn't mean that he gets an extended amount of time with every one. Mostly because everybody else's life cant stop just because we are here. But Im thankful for the time he is getting. And Im thankful for the ways people have put their life on hold to make time for us.
Im also thankful Freeland is making the sacrifice for us to get all this time with our family. (umm lets just say he is working hard right now and only getting really 2 days this month with his son) He is learning a lot but I know its hard not getting to see us everyday.
And in other news it looks like we will be finding out if River is going to have a little brother or little sister tomorrow at 11:30am! Its still undecided if I'll have them tell me there or have them write it down and wait until Freeland is with me to read it.. either way, we find out tomorrow! Looks like majority is thinking a girl on the survey. But just by 9 people. I still have no idea what I would guess the sex is. So its been fun reading what yall are guessing!
I just realized all the pictures I uploaded before I left didnt really upload. bummer. Here are some that did from Rivers first haircut (sadly, the before and afters didnt. Im sorry you dont get to witness how crazy his hair was. Lets just say it was a major party in the back).
Freeland was looking out for River! Poor kid was starting to grow a rats tail. If it was 1985 he would have been stylin but not so much today. So Freeland insisted that we cut his hair.

bed head

thankfully, he really had no idea what was going on

Then Freeland came in and cleaned it up even more. Making sure it faded nicely in the back. Things Im not sure how to do.

yes, those are our kitchen scissors
you cant really tell in this picture.. but its the best I have since the others didnt upload:

love that little blond head of hair. And cant wait for it to get even longer. If only it had the curls on the end that both my brother & I had!
(ps: thanks for voting.. its been super fun to read every one's guesses!)
Well, as of now we will hopefully be finding out if this little nugget is a boy or girl this Friday!
I can not wait. I was telling Freeland that I think some things about being pregnant are even more exciting the second time around. And Im pretty stinkin excited.
And just like last time, I cant believe we are already this far along. It seems like just last week we found out we were prego.
So, per your request I put up a poll on the blog.. (just kidding you didnt request it but saying that makes me feel less silly about doing it!)
so once again feel free to all join in on the fun.. share your opinions.. feel like your voice is being heard..
The little poll is over there on the right. (Its anonymous for those who are interested in knowing)
Now the burning question - do you think its a boy or girl???
(thanks for playing along! I loved seeing what everyone thought last time!)
well 10 months old. which means Im getting emails telling me to start preparing for your 1st birthday!
Yikes. stop. it.

I would summarize you being 10 months old by saying you are just becoming a crazy little boy. You LOVE attention. And you pretty much demand it all day long. If anybody so much as smiles at you they are your favorite person & will have you laughing all day long. (umm and when you see a picture of yourself you just about die. should I be concerned?) You are on the go all the time. Which has kept me on my toes. You babble and "talk" all the time. You still go back and forth between favoring MaMa & DaDa different weeks. Its my favorite when you wake up and say mama in your crib.

I would also say one of the things that stands out the most is the amount of food you will eat. Its fun seeing you try everything new and eat what we eat for dinner. Dont get me wrong - you can be picky. But most days as long as you are eating you are happy. You are a bottom-less pit. And Im pretty sure you eat more food than I do. I would be worried except that you still have the skinniest little arms & legs. (you weigh 20 lbs now.. I made your dad weigh you when we were at my OB appointment) Also, its really the only way I know you dont feel good .. when you dont want to eat! ha

You love to dance, to chase your dad around the house, to watch mickey mouse, to wave, to bounce around (still a favorite) and to play with other kids. Youre starting to love playing with cars too. And just this week you went to your first playground. (since we are in Texas and the weather allows those sorts of things in February) you LOVE the swing. Even if youre just sitting in it and not moving. And the bath is still one of your favorite places too.

Im amazed watching all the things you are learning & figuring out. You blow me away with what a little charmer you can be. I have a feeling you are going to be one determined little boy as you grow up. And like I say every month, youre definitely still a daddys boy. Its pretty sweet. Thankfully you still arent at the age where you realize he is gone (at work). But once he is home he has your full attention.

This stage has been so fun. Watching you learn, interact, and become more independent. But Im gonna go ahead and say Im more tired than I was when you were a newborn. Even though you sleep so well. Im exhausted. That could just be the pregnancy but phew. Im definitely ready for bed the second you go down. (which makes me thankful you go to bed early) You are the biggest joy. the way your nose squishes when you smile melts my heart. I cant wait to see you as a big brother.

when you are traveling making your blog a priority is even harder.
I havent even been on the computer once since we left until now. (which I actually very much enjoy)
River is getting S.P.O.I.L.E.D. with lots of attention and eating it up. Freeland is working hard on his rotation. And I am taking advantage of the family we have around entertaining my son so I can rest. (I guess you could say Im getting spoiled too)
The trip down was a success. The seat next to us was empty and I have no idea how we would have done it otherwise. Note: River at 10 months wont sit still like he would at 6 months. He wants to make sure everyone can see him and go nuts over how cute he is. I'll be looking into buying him a seat for the way home.
Freelands drive was a little more adventurous (thats my nice way of saying horrible. He made the 22 hour drive home while I flew home. poor guy) He made great time until he got to Little Rock and it took him 5+ hours just to get to the other side of town because of the ice. SO he made it in at 5:00am. Needless to say, neither of us really slept that night and we took about 2 days to recover from all that was going on.
I have Rivers 10 month post to put up and lots of other pictures.. including FINALLY putting up pictures of all the updates we did to our house! But for now Im going to go chase my son around & then enjoy the 70 degree weather outside.
PS: I ALSO FORGOT TO MENTION THAT WE GET TO FIND OUT THE SEX OF THE BABY WHILE WE ARE IN TEXAS! I CANNOT WAIT! I was expecting to have to wait until March sometime so Im thrilled!!
well, we are busy here packing up and heading to Texas. yeeee haw! (sorry couldnt help myself)
Sorry for the lack of post.
My attention has been on .. packing a suitcase for myself, packing clothes for River, cleaning the house, packing more, cleaning the fridge out, passing out from exhaustion, figuring out what to take on the plane that will entertain him enough not to yell, (the answer is food) working through to-do list that have to be done before we leave...
and other important things like chasing River around the house, trying to get him to stop eating the cats food, and probably saying no 23498729587+ times a day.
Its going to be a little hectic but we're going to make it work. Other people do it all the time!
Freeland is starting another month of general surgery on Monday. That will make it 3 months in a row of surgery. Then after that he is doing an Orthopedic Rotation .. so really 4 months in a row of surgery. Guess he is going to figure out if surgery is for him or not. We're really excited. (that wasnt sarcasm)
I have a lot of pictures uploading so hopefully I can post LOTS while I am in Tejas!
we had a superbowl party at our house last night. It was a blast filling our house with lots of yummy food, drinks, and wonderful friends.
Im pretty sure all of america has seen this commercial by now because (in my opinion) it was really the only good one. I went to watch it online and found this that has even more than what they showed during the game.
I cant wait for River to be this age.
But he can take his time too.
I should have added this picture with yesterdays post but I didnt think about it until this morning.
River & Henry arent the only besties who dress alike around here.
Im pretty sure 9 out of 10 times when Freeland & Adam are hanging out they both show up dressed in the same exact thing. And I really dont feel like thats exaggerating. If so then I will give you 8 out of 10 times.
Case & Point.. last Saturday:
I love watching River & Henry play. (Henry is Adam & Camille's son for those who dont know) Pretty much Henry plays and River just watches him.. as in he wont take his eyes off him and is completely enamored with a bigger person playing. Its pretty sweet to watch. And Henry is so sweet to River. He constantly hands him food, toys, and will even walk up and hug him.. without any prompting! And the way he says his name is just about the cutest thing Ive ever heard.
So the other day Henry came over and had pajamas on that River also has. Of course we had to put them on River asap and get lots of pictures.
They didnt turn out that great but thats not the point they still make me smile.. and laugh.. and they also make me very thankful that these boys know each other.
it started out like this:

playing:

then this quickly happened:

(note: Henry isnt crying. he was actually laughing I think?)
then Henry was all "if all youre going to do is cry then Im outta here":

so we moved on and tried just laying them on the floor:

and then we stopped trying to make them pose and I just took pictures of them sitting by each other:

Please note that all my son was interested in at that point was the TV in front of him and the food in his hand. nice!

(after all of us begging Henry to kiss him he did! It was sweet)

again.. River is just eating & watching TV.
The funny thing is - Elliot & River are actually closer in age then Henry & River. (Henry & River are just about 20 days shy of being a year apart and Elliot & River are only 7 months apart) so it will be really fun one day when Elliot & River play together! And when our #2 is here its going to be a mad house all playing together! I cant wait.
