Freeland & I first of all would like the world to know that Starbucks is officially pulling out the Pumpkin Spice Latte's on Tuesday of this week. Get your gift cards ready people .. we cannot wait. I think I have told everyone I came in contact with the last 5 days.
So now you know where we will be on Tuesday.
Second, we are currently doing Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University with our small group from church. Its good. hard. annoying. rewarding. boring. and a relief all at the same time.
We officially sat down and did our budget yesterday. (which I dont recommend doing on Sunday. Do it Friday before happy hour or something! Sunday is meant to be relaxing.. not stressful!)
Third, this weekend was a blast. And to top it off .. it was only 61 degrees yesterday and we officially kicked the season off by taking the dogs for a long walk and coming home to a big pot of warm homemade soup!!

the first leaf

I officially saw my first orange leaf yesterday (in our backyard.)
You know what that means ... FALL IS COMING.
I couldn't be more excited.
Freeland & I sat on the porch today during lunch and discussed pumpkin spice lattes, cool weather, camping, Halloween, and everything else that comes with it.
So hurry up and get here!!

Reason # 586,247
Reason #586,247 that I love my husband
He is willing to wake up at 3:30 in the morning and drive to 3 different stores until he finds one that is open just to get me medicine.
(we've both been sick the last week with some viral junk. it hasn't been pretty but it looks like we both made it through. Mostly thanks to Freeland)

Its gettin hot in here..
Currently I am in Texas for some last second meetings with work.
Oh my gosh its so stinkin Hot. Im a total wimp apparently. The second I stepped off the plane I just about fell over. And my family informed me that its actually "cooler" right now than it has been!
I love getting to come in for meetings because it means I finally get to see all my co-workers! I only see everyone about 2-3 times a year so its always fun when we finally get together. It also helps me get refocused and excited about my job.
And I have obvs. been stuffing myself silly with LOTS of yummy food. Freeland said he is jealous of all the meals Im eating. (Sonic and Mexican food to name a few) I told him that I felt bad he wasnt here to enjoy them with me but it wasnt going to stop me from digging in because I miss this food so much.
I travel back to Pennsylvania tomorrow and Im looking forward to just being home & not having a 1000 going on. It seems like the second I think everything slows down and Im going to get caught up - it just picks right back up again.
Okay Im off to face the Texas heat once more. I think the worst part is when you first get in your car! Yikes.

doggy day spa
last week we were outside in the backyard enjoying dinner on the patio with my mom & mark.. when all the sudden I saw Oliver running to the back fence.
Not a big deal.
This happens at least 5-10 times every time we are out there. The neighbors dog & our dogs like to look at each other through the fence apparently. But its all in good fun.
Then I realized both the dogs were back there. And they werent looking through the fence at our neighbors dog. They were sniffing the compost pile. And they were freaking out.
WHAT?
So Freeland runs back to see what the fuss is about. (ie: make sure they weren't cornering a bunny or something)
And about .5 seconds after Freeland started walking towards them we could all unfortunately smell what it was about.
They saw a skunk. And apparently the skunk saw them too.
and sprayed BOTH dogs to let them know he saw them & didnt care they were 100x his size.
So long story short the dogs camped out in the garage that night. There was NO way they were stepping foot in the house. Have you ever been that close to something that was sprayed? Oh My Lord its fowl.
SO the next morning Freeland got up in the rain and gave both the dogs a bath for over 2+ hours.
Hence - they had a day at the doggy day spa.
Please note in the picture above that Oliver is such a loyal brother to madelyn that even when its not his turn to get sprayed with the water he still stands by her side.
Freeland bathed them in Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, and every bit of Tomato Juice we were able to find. (sadly I went back inside to work before the tomato juice baths.. that would have been a great picture) But after their hair was orange.
After all that - they were incredibly soft but unfortunately they still smelled like skunk.
Freeland ended up having to go to the vet to get spray that was supposed to take away the smell.
It helped but then they just smelled like chemicals. And eventually the chemical smell goes away and the skunk smell is still there.
I get dizzy just looking at this picture
Funny, no? It was until a week later Maddie still smells like a skunk.

Student Dr. Ackley (the second time around)
Well, its official. Summer is over.
Freeland left for his first day of his 2nd year of Med School today. You could also say his first day of his last year of class!!! Whichever you fancy is fine.
I think they call him an MS-II now. Sooo official.

And of course we had to take our annual picture of Student Dr. Ackley.
Starting school again (read: ending summer) just means we are that much closer to him finishing. So thats good! This time next year he will be in the middle of rotations! crazy.

freeland's routine in the morning includes pouring fresh coffee as he walks out the door. Every day. without fail. like clockwork. So I felt it should be documented.
To say we had an incredible summer is a huge understatement. Just thinking about all the things we were able to do and experience together in these few short months makes me tear up. I think we needed this break more than we both realized.
And although it stinks that we have to get back into the grind of things & cant enjoy just doing whatever we want again.. and I have to share my husband with school once more.. I suppose it will be nice to be back on a schedule again. (There are just a few gazillion things I have been putting off & the stack on my desk is about to fall over its so high.)

Freelands "please stop following me with a camera" face
So here's to another year of school being done & life being organized again.
PS: If you left me a comment about taking pictures do you mind emailing me or leaving your email in the comments below? It showed up as 'anonymous' so Im not sure how to get in touch with you to answer your question! But I would love to get in touch with you! Thanks so much! Brooke :)
