Tehuacana Creek Vineyards & Winery

{pronounced "to-walk-in-a" creek} So we made the trip out to the TCV winery and I must say it was 100% worth it. We had no idea what to expect. I mean, its Waco. But we were pleasantly surprised to have a great time.

The winery was started in 1997 by Ulf & Inga Westblom who are originally from Sweden. They grew up enjoying wine & all of its fabulousness.. they have even been semi-professional wine tasters & critics for the last 30+ years.. so they decided to start making their own wine. Originally they were looking to start a winery in California until they learned you could do the same in Texas for 1/2 the price. They are definitely the reason we enjoyed the winery as much as we did. Here is a picture of the couple who own & run the winery:

You see not only do they make their own wine & run a winery .. Ulf is also a doctor. He is currently the Cheif of Medicine in Temple! How great is that? It was the last thing I expected him to say that he did when we met them.. he was so down to earth.. oh and did I mention they live in a double-wide on the winery? Yes the Cheif of Medicine and he does all of this?! I love that they live such a simple life so that they are able to do what they love.

So after spending the afternoon with them hearing all about their lives, the vineyards, and the wine we got to taste it all. I must say it was really good. Their wines are not your "normal" wines like Merlot, Cab, etc. Instead they use different grapes so every one of them tasted different than anything Freeland & I have ever had. We bought a bottle and went to sit on their porch and enjoy cheese, crackers, & bread. It was the perfect afternoon and a great way to celebrate Valentines the day after!
If you are ever in Waco you should go enjoy a tour & tasting! Oh - and another little tid bit. He was explaining the history of the land & how at one point it was part of the large Harrison Cotton Plantation. General James E. Harrison lived there and had a huge plantation house built there. Why was that special to us? Its the brother of Ann Eliza Harrison Earle - the one who built the Earle Harrison House where we were married. So that was special to us.
